Embark on your journey as your guide and mountain support crew arrive at your hotel. After a 3-4 hour drive, you’ll reach Kilimanjaro National Park’s western entrance, Londorossi Gate. Following the quick process of obtaining climbing permits and registering with search and rescue services, you’ll continue your ascent by off-road vehicles to a drop-off point at 3,414 m / 11,200 ft, where you’ll catch your first breathtaking view of the Shira Plateau.
From here, the trek to your first high-altitude camp, Shira 2, begins with a moderate altitude gain. This relatively easy stretch allows you to begin acclimatizing to the altitude. Upon arrival, our professional mountain crew will have the camp set up, with tents ready and dinner in preparation.
➔ Please Note: As this is your first day at high altitude, it’s important to follow key guidelines: Drink over 4 liters of water daily, in small, frequent sips. Consider using altitude sickness prevention medications, and consult your doctor before the trek to address any health concerns. At night, the reduced oxygen levels may lead to mild symptoms of altitude sickness such as headaches. Pay attention to your body and inform your guide if you experience any discomfort.
