Itinerary
Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha/Moshi
Welcome to your adventure with Williamson Adventures! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our warm and welcoming representative will be there to greet you. You’ll then be transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, located at an altitude of 890m/2,920ft.
After settling in, you’ll meet your guide for a detailed climb briefing, where we’ll cover the upcoming trek to ensure you’re fully prepared and informed. We’ll also conduct an equipment check to confirm you have all the necessary gear for a safe and successful climb. If anything is missing, you can rent or purchase it at our store.
The rest of the day is yours to relax, explore Moshi, and prepare for the exciting journey ahead. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel, allowing you to rest and acclimate to the local climate
DAY 1: LEMOSHO GATE – MTI MKUBWA CAMP

Altitude Gained: 396m
Departing from Moshi, a scenic 3-hour drive will lead you through picturesque mountainside villages to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Once there, we’ll await the issuance of our permits, taking in the lively atmosphere as various teams prepare for their treks. The trail offers beautiful rainforest views, winding paths, and abundant opportunities to learn about the local flora, fauna, and wildlife from your guide. At these lower elevations, the trail may be muddy and slippery, so we recommend using gaiters and trekking poles for extra stability.
DAY 2: MTI MKUBWA CAMP – SHIRA I CAMP
Distance: 7.9 km / 5 mi
Duration: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Elevation: 2785m/9137ft to 3504m/11,496ft
Altitude Gained: 719m
Following breakfast, the trail ascends through the rainforest before transitioning into moorland. The path steadily climbs, revealing expansive views as you near the Shira Plateau, where the temperature begins to decrease.
DAY 3: SHIRA I CAMP –SHIRA HUT
Distance: 6.9 km / 4.3 mi
Duration: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Elevation: 3504m / 11,496ft to 3895m / 12,779ft
Altitude Gained: 391m
This day offers a scenic exploration of the Shira Plateau, with a gradual walk eastward towards the towering Kibo peak. The path traverses lush moorland meadows, passing by a stream to reach Shira 2 Camp. From there, the journey continues to Moir Hut, situated at the base of Lent Hills—an ideal spot for acclimatization.
DAY 4: SHIRA HUT – LAVA TOWER – BARRANCO CAMP
Distance: 10.1 km / 6.3 mi
Duration: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert
Elevation: 3895m/12,779ft to 3986m/13,077ft
Altitude Gained: 91m
This day plays a vital role in acclimatization, even though the final elevation is similar. The trail ascends to Lava Tower (4650m/15,250ft), a striking rock formation. After reaching the tower, the path then descends to Barranco Camp
DAY 5: BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP
Distance: 5.2 km / 3 mi
Duration: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Elevation: 3986m / 13,077ft to 4034m / 13,235ft
Altitude Gained: 48m
The day starts with a steep ascent up the Barranco Wall, followed by a descent into the Karanga Valley. The route then merges with the Mweka Trail. This segment highlights the crew’s expertise and agility as they tackle the challenging terrain.
DAY 6: HIKE KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP
Distance: 3.3 km / 2 mi
Duration: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Elevation: 4034m / 13,235ft to 4662m / 15,295ft
Altitude Gained: 628m
The trail ascends to Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit. This camp provides several stunning views of the summit. After an early dinner, rest up for the upcoming summit attempt
DAY 7: BARAFU CAMP – SUMMIT: 4.86KM /3MI UP | 5-7HRS | – MWEKA CAMP

Starting between midnight and 2 a.m., the final ascent begins with a climb through glaciers to Stella Point. From there, it’s a challenging push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit and celebrating, you’ll descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest before continuing to Mweka Camp.
DAY 8: MWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE – Arusha/Moshi
Distance: 9.1 km / 6 mi
Duration: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Elevation: 3106m/10,190ft to 1633m/5358ft
Altitude Lost: 1473m
The final descent takes you through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will then transfer you back to Arusha/Moshi for a well-deserved shower, dinner, marking the end of the 8-day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Trek
