Itinerary
Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi
Welcome to your adventure with African Landscape Adventures! Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our welcoming representative will be ready to greet you with warm hospitality. You’ll then be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, nestled at an elevation of 890m/2,920ft.
After settling in, you’ll meet your expert guide for a detailed climb briefing. During this session, we’ll cover all aspects of the upcoming trek, ensuring you feel prepared and confident. Following the briefing, an equipment check will be conducted to confirm you have everything required for a safe and successful ascent. Any missing items can be rented or purchased at our Gear Store.
The remainder of the day is yours to unwind, explore the charming town of Moshi, or make final preparations for the journey ahead. Relax in the comfort of your hotel and acclimate to the local climate before your thrilling adventure begins.
Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave

Your journey begins in Moshi with a scenic drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. After completing the necessary formalities and permits, the adventure begins as you trek through the lush rainforest along a winding trail. The path ascends a ridge nestled between two deep valleys, immersing you in the enchanting montane forest. As you climb, the trail reveals spectacular surroundings, leading to Umbwe Cave Camp, a serene spot enveloped by towering trees and dense undergrowth. This is the perfect setting to rest and prepare for the next leg of your Kilimanjaro adventure with African Landscape Adventures.
Day 2: Umbwe Cave to Barranco Camp

After a hearty breakfast and a refreshing night’s rest, you’ll leave the enchanting rainforest and embark on a steep ascent along the striking Umbwe Ridge. The trail offers breathtaking views as you emerge into the scenic moorland. As you progress, you’ll descend slightly into the stunning Barranco Valley, where Barranco Camp awaits. With temperatures beginning to drop, prepare for the crisp mountain air and an unforgettable experience.
Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Duration: 3-4 hours

Elevation: 3986m (13,077ft) to 4034m (13,235ft)

The journey begins with a challenging yet rewarding ascent along the steep Barranco Wall, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. From the ridge, the trail continues to the scenic Karanga Valley, eventually reaching the junction that connects with the Mweka Trail. Conclude the day with an overnight stay at Karanga Camp, nestled amidst the unique alpine desert terrain
Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Distance: 3.3 km / 2 mi
Duration: 3-4 hours

Continue your journey toward Barafu Camp, completing the scenic South Circuit. Day 5: Barafu Camp to Summit, then to Mweka Camp

Your journey begins between midnight and 2 a.m., setting out under a canopy of stars for the ultimate challenge. Navigate the path between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers as you make your way to Uhuru Peak, the pinnacle of Africa. Experience the breathtaking sunrise at the summit, capturing unforgettable views and celebrating your remarkable achievement.
After soaking in the triumph of reaching 5,895 meters above sea level, begin your descent back through the rugged terrain. Head down to Mweka Camp, where you’ll find well-earned rest and comfort for the night.
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, then to Moshi

Start your day with breakfast and a heartfelt appreciation ceremony with your dedicated crew. From there, proceed to Mweka Village, where a vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.
